Après deux collections légèrement jazz et fortement acclamées du nom de Future Standards et Further Standards, on retrouve ici le phrasé dissonant de Gelb, et ses paroles finement romantiques. Sur Gathered, il rassemble de nombreux collaborateurs comme M. Ward, Gabriel Naim Amor, Fernando Vacas, Juan Panki, The Lost Brothers, Anna Karina, JB Meijers et Kira Skov, ainsi que sa propre fille, Talula, avec qui il reprend le morceau Moon River de Henry Mancini.
