Le deuxième volume de la compilationde Studio One présente 17 titres parmi lesquels des classiques de figures emblématiques du reggae comme Alton Ellis, The Heptones, Jackie Mittoo, The Gladiators, ainsi que certaines raretés et certains titres méconnus ont tous pour point commun d'être d'une qualité exceptionnelle. La vertu de la noirceur est au coeur des croyances Rastafari ; le thème récurrent de cet album est donc, comme son nom l'indique, la fierté noire. La plupart des morceaux viennent de la période transitoire du reggae, entre la fin des années 60 et tout au long des années 70, après l'euphorie du ska.
